How to get cheap hotels

There are so many ways to get deals on hotel rooms these days that no matter how great a bargain you find, it’s not uncommon to worry you missed a better one.
  1. Price check

Firstly you can check the hotel prices at Kayak.com, which aggregates prices across other sites. This site allows you to check several hotels at once When you find some hotels with good price on a metasearch website, you should check the prices against the hotels’ own website, which sometimes have great additional discounts that not shown on web.
  1. Avoid extra charges and fees

Inquire about all fees. Many hotels make up for low base rates by charging high 'hidden' fees. Examples are for receiving a FedEx parcel, a mandatory tip to the bellman, fees for using the in room safe, amenity fees, mini bar restocking charges, baggage room fees, cancellation fees, early or late arrival or departure fees, and very high phone or internet charges. Note: If you're not informed about these charges ahead of time, you can and should ask for them to be removed at the end of your stay. Read those forms when signing in. When checking in, ask the front desk to bundle your internet and phone charges. Also ask them to package up any hotel gym charges or resort fees. This will likely end up cheaper than paying for these individually. Of course, you can also opt not to use these facilities.
  1. Make the Call to the hotel directly

Online rates aren't always the best. Calling direct to hotel you chosen on the phone will often give you the best rate. Get in touch with the manager on duty or the director of sales at your hotel and negotiate a better room rate. Tell them you’re about to reserve their hotel with, a hotel online booking website, and ask if they can give you a discount for booking direct. Hotels typically pay from 10% to 30% commission to booking sites, so if you book direct, they should be eager to split the difference with you. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t — it often depends on who answers the phone and how powerful they are. If it is a small hotel, you should ask to speak to the owner or manager. (You can also ask for a discount via email)
  1. Negotiate the rate if you stay long time

If your stay is for a whole week or more, ask to see if you can get a weekend rate for the entire week. These are lowers, as business travelers won't be staying during weekend days.
  1. Last-minute booking

This step only applies if you’ve got a cancelable reservation, but with lower-cost hotels that’s often the case. Many hotels lower rates just before the date if they're not yet booked up. A crafty trick is to book a room at a cheap hotel chain that allows same day cancellations. Now, a day or two before your arrival, call your preferred hotel and ask for their lowest rate. If the deal is better, go ahead cancel your first booking and enjoy your stay.
  1. Flexible your date

Price always depend on time of the year or day of the week, and especially upcoming holiday (ex: New Year’s Eve, Christmas day, Thanksgiving, Dependent’s day..) So if the date you choose is after a holiday, the price is also a bit cheaper. That’s better if you avoid the traveling season, such as August is a big month to travel in Europe when many people there take vacation, so airline tickets will be higher. Check other dates before you commit your check-in to make sure you get the cheapest day.
